The private things on your machine, documents, photos, passwords, notes, sit in plain folders that anyone who opens the laptop can read. The usual answer is a cloud service that wants an account, a subscription, and a copy of your files.
What Vault X does
Vault X encrypts each file with authenticated AES-256-GCM on your own machine and hides it behind a PIN or Windows Hello. There is no account, because there is no server to have an account on.

Recovery and backups
A 12-word recovery phrase plus encrypted .vault backups keep your data recoverable.
Auto-lock
Locks on inactivity, when Windows locks, or instantly with a quick-hide hotkey.

Questions
FAQDo I need an account?
No. Vault X has no sign-up and no server. Your PIN is never stored: it only unwraps a random key that protects your data.
What happens if I forget my PIN?
You restore with the 12-word recovery phrase you saved when you set the vault up. Without the PIN or the phrase, the data cannot be recovered, by you or by us.
Does anything leave my device?
Nothing. Vault X is 100% offline: no servers, no accounts, no analytics. It works on the files you choose and collects nothing about you.
